| Ukiyoe means genre paintings. This book is truly a "kimono chronicle" as seen in ukiyoe. Almost all of the illustrations are extremely elaborate multi-colored woodblock prints (34 x 48 cm), a compilation of the best techniques in the history of art book publishing. The commentary was written by Omura Seigai, who later published it under the title History of Early Modern Genre Painting. 152 multicolored woodblock prints are included (including one triptych), depicting the changes of kimono in early modern life. | |
